Alaska's population are made up of Eskimos, Indians and Aleut people and the capital city is Juneau. Arctic Alaska is north of the Brooks range it is barren and the temperature falls to -40 degrees in the winter. In the interior the winters are cold and the summers are short and hot.
Alaska has many attractions to ecotourists such as the Katmai National park which includes 'the valley of ten thousand smokes' an active area of volcanoes. Climb a glacier, trek in the mountain ranges or take a dog sled ride. Raft or kayak down the fords that interject the mountains. Alaska's wildlife is another huge draw for those planning a vacation. Native animals include polar bears, grey wolves, grizzly bears, lynx and moose. On a boat trip you make get the opportunity to have a close encounter with a humpbacked whale or orca.
The Alaska Wilderness Recreation and Tourism Association was formed as a collective voice for wilderness dependent organisations. They campaign for the sustainability of Alaska's natural and cultural resources, responsible tourism and tourism planning for communities. They follow ecotourism principles.
