"Kachemak Bay is so incredible. It is my passion and my life. Otters, whales, eagles, barnacles, plankton... every bit of life in Kachemak Bay depends on one another for survival. The fact that I get to share this beautiful place with travelers from around the world is an unimaginable blessing."
Rick Harness, A Seaside Adventure owner and guide
Kachemak Bay is noted for its emerald green waters. One of the richest marine ecosystems of North Pacific waters is located in the Tutka Bay area. Surrounded by spectacular mountains with virgin forests, glaciers, rivers, waterfalls and abundant wildlife, sea life flourishes in these nutrient filled waters. Sea stars, octopus, crab, salmon, halibut, sea otters, sea anemones, porpoises and whales are among the treasures our neighborhood has to offer.
Forest song birds, shorebirds, eagles, and seabirds play right in our front yard. We have nesting eagles within a few paddles strokes of our house. We also take our guests to secret and pristine sites very few people know about. The photo opportunities are unlimited. Canon Photo Safari and National Geographic have been some of our guests and told us we made their trips a success.
Whether exploring the Kachemak Bay area by boat, kayak, or on foot, as the pioneers of eco-tours in Kachemak Bay we can assure you that this rich habitat and breathtaking panorama will create lifetime memories.
We live and headquarter our tours in Little Tutka Bay, also known as Cozy Cove, on the south side of the Kachemak Bay, ten water miles from the small town of Homer, Alaska. We are away from the road system, right in the spectacular, most protected coves and island system of Kachemak Bay where we take you on our tours among an abundance of wildlife and spectacular scenery.
You might want to visit for a day, but you also have the option to stay in this 'living picture' you saw from the highway lookout on the other side of the bay. Spend a few days in our cozy seaside cabin where you can take in the serenity, natural wonders, sunsets, wildlife and adventures that let you forget the busy world you came from.
Seaside Adventure is a family owned and operated business. We are happy to say that we have been exploring these waters and uplands for over 40 years. We try to give back as much as we have received from this rich and diverse area. Our home is built on the beach front of Little Kayak Island, tucked into old growth spruce trees, overlooking Little Tutka Bay and we feel very fortunate to be caretakers of such a beautiful, rich ecosystem. We derive much pleasure from our gorgeous bay and we love to share the wonders and secrets of nature with those of you who join us for a visit. We have chosen to keep our operation small and intimate. When you visit us, you experience true
Alaska.
Rick, a naturalist in the purest sense, has studied the pristine environment of Kachemak Bay all his life. He shares his knowledge with humor, and his enthusiasm for his home is contagious. He shares his collection of native artifacts and takes you to archeological sites as well as some of the area's fascinating geological formation.
