The fully guided tours of half and one day duration are conducted in and around the beautiful Mimosa Rocks National Park on the far south coast of New South Wales. Sapphire Coast Ecotours is the only licensed commercial operator within the Mimosa Rocks National Park and as such is able to offer clients a ‘whole of park’ experience.

Your guide, Sue, has many years of bushwalking experience around Australia, is a keen bird watcher and photographer. She has an Environmental Studies Degree and has a wide knowledge of environmental systems and a passion for this place.

As the logo implies, the tours are about discovery; of the environment, of ourselves. Using all the senses, people learn to look out for clues to ancient and recent environmental changes. We are also fortunate to have a local indigenous community here who are able to offer a view of the significance of the coast in local aboriginal history, including bush tucker and seafood.

This is an intimate experience. With a maximum of 4 people on the tours can be designed around you special interest, such as bird watching, flora and fauna, aboriginal culture, painting & drawing or just purely exercise. The full day tours may be complemented by a gourmet picnic, highlighting the best of local produce prepared by local, talented chef.

Full packages can be arranged, including transport, accommodation and meals as well as the tours. It is easy to spend a weekend or longer exploring this region and all that it has to offer – pristine beaches, breathtaking scenery, places of historic interest, local indigenous culture, a rich art community wonderful gardens and fabulous fresh south coast produce.

The Walks

The walks commence at your hosts’ property south of Bermagui. We are situated on 75 acres of diverse coastal vegetation, with abundant wildlife and birdlife. We firstly explore the diversity of coastal environments around the estuary. This short walk is followed by a snack after which we are transferred to the beach for the main part of the walk concentrating on the coastal systems and headlands. The coastal scenery is stunning, and during Spring the annual migration of whales to the Antarctic makes this a truly spectacular place to visit.

The walks can be of half or one day duration. Half day walks include a snack. The full day tours include a snack and you are invited to bring along a picnic lunch, or for a bit of indulgence let us cater for you.

Ecotourism Policies

Sapphire Coast Ecotours is committed to the principles of best practice ecotourism. During 2005 we will be applying for Eco Certification with Ecotourism Australia. We are continually expanding our local knowledge of the natural and cultural history of the area, so that we can offer clients a well-informed and enjoyable adventure. Sapphire Coast Ecotours is the only licensed commercial operator within the Mimosa Rocks National Park and we work closely with the protected area managers to provide a sustainable tourism experience.

A member of the local indigenous community is able to join us on the walks to add an authentic cultural experience to the tours.

We are also involved with the Shore Bird Recovery program conducted annually by the National Parks Service and clients may have the opportunity to assist with this research. Clients will also have the opportunity to learn first hand about aboriginal culture, including bush tucker and the aboriginal way of life.
