Botswana is landlocked and has borders with Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe . The country is mostly dry, dominated by the Kalahari desert in the central and south-west areas. Towards the north – west, the vegetation is more lush, with riverine forest and marshland around the Moremi and Chobe National Parks and Okavango Delta.

The majority of ecotourists visit Botswana for the diverse wildlife, vast wilderness and cultural characteristics. A popular vacation destination is the Okavango Delta which has been described as a a labyrinth of lagoons, lakes and hidden channels. It covers an area of over 17,000 square km and isthe largest inland delta in the world.

Travel Safe

People in Botswana are very friendly and the crime rate is low. There isn't much to worry about on this front. Nevertheless, crime has been on the rise over the past several years, so always be aware of your surroundings. Basic common sense will keep you safe from the predatory wildlife in rural areas.
