The Ecolodge Rendez-Vous is a small family-operated eco resort surrounded by lush tropical vegetation - a perfect hideaway for people who want to get away from it all. It's a hotel where guests feel quickly at home, in comfortable mosquito-free accommodation, receive personal attention & where the individual still counts.
The Ecolodge is more than just a hotel, it's a lifestyle based on the premise that contact with nature is essential to relieve stress, to rejuvenate and to rediscover a sense of self. We offer accommodation in 11 comfortable, charming Saban-style cottages, each with private porch, hammock and bathroom, scattered over abandoned terraced farmland that has been recovered by rainforest and located at 500 m (1,700 feet) elevation. All are individually decorated in nature themes by local artist Heleen Cornet. A cottage sleeps 2 to 4 persons. A sweat lodge and hot tub are located on the property.
The resort uses solar energy for lighting and hot water, composts its waste and collects rainwater in cisterns. The restaurant serves healthy and tasty international and vegetarian cuisine with ingredients from its own vegetable and herb garden. Breakfast lunch and dinner are served.
Saba is not your run-of-the-mill Caribbean island: there are no sandy beaches (well, a seasonal beach in some years), no casinos, no marinas, only a small harbor and a 1,300 ft (400 m) runway that accommodates short take off and landing (STOL) aircraft. But that's just a small price you pay for being in paradise, because there are plenty of assets that offset these limitations, such as the cleanliness of the island, the safety, the spotlessly maintained quaint red-white-and-green Saban homes, the beautiful gardens, the old agricultural plots, the lush vegetation, and perhaps most of all the people of Saba who are curious, hospitable, inviting and entertaining. While Saba is developing like every other place on the globe, such development has been modest and slow-paced and has not affected the unique character of the island. Hence Saba continues to proudly bear its name of "Unspoiled Queen".
Our philosophy is to provide guests and visitors with intimate contact with nature and wilderness, while using resources responsibly and causing minimal environmental impact. The majority of the world population lives in densely populated areas under stressful conditions, distant from nature and wilderness. We want to bring our guests in close contact with nature, to savor its sounds and flavors, look at starlit skies, become aware of nature's rhythms, and thus relieve your stress. This is why the Ecolodge is in the forest, off the main road, has no vehicular access, no radios or television, and no telephones in the rooms.
In the construction we have used eco-friendly and recycled materials as much as possible. For example, decks and staircases are made of Trex Wood Polymer® manufactured from reclaimed plastic and wood waste. The siding is Hardiplank, a product made of cement, sand and recycled paper. For the structural components of the buildings ACQ pressure treated lumber was used as an alternative for the toxic chromated copper arsenate lumber. ACQ lumber contains an alkaline, a fungicide and 100% recycled copper as an environmentally safe wood preservative.
