Ecuador Ethnogastronomic is one of a kind expedition introducing travelers to the native people of the Ecuadorian Andes. You will visit four indigenous communities, share in their ancient traditions, taste their traditional foods, delve into their knowledge of medicinal plants and meet the shamans.

You will also explore the colonial cities of Quito and Cuenca and experience the spectacular natural beauty of the high Andes, all making positive contributions to the conservation of cultural heritage and providing more enjoyable experiences for tourists through more meaningful connections with local people, promoting cultural sensitivity and engendering respect between tourists and hosts.

Jessica Alexandra Meza García is an Engineer in Tourist Administration with 7 years tourism business experience. Three of those years she has worked directly as a Tourist Guide. Jessica speaks German, English and of course her native language, Spanish. She and her husband, Kjetil Haugan, own Columbus Travel and are working together on this project through the Agency. Jessica developed this tour from her heartfelt love of her country and desire to share with Tourist a side of Ecuador less often seen; the culture and lifestyle of the Indigenous people.

Engage your senses, your soul and your spirit. Experience the customs, cultures and healing techniques - both spiritual and physical - of ancient cultures. We invite you to enjoy a vacation that will leave you awakened!

Prices start at: $884 P/P.

In the eight days of the tour your are going to be able to see fabulous examples of colonial art and the grandest churches in South America; the "Middle of the World" monument, the largest indigenous market in Latin America, at Otavalo.

Pukyu Pamba, a family run project, learn more about natural medicine, the high-altitude Antizana Reserve south of Quito which is rich in plant and animal life. Get a close-up view of education for indigenous children and feast on the area's wonderful food, join in traditional songs and dances, see the community's handicrafts, spend time learning about daily life and visit the women's weaving cooperative.

See Ingapirca, Ecuador's most important pre-Columbian ruin, a monument to the Cañari and Inca cultures. The Kushi Wayra project, experience life in the "mingas", a working collective, and enjoy a "pampamesa", a country picnic featuring the food of the region.

At the end, Guayaquil, Ecuador's major port and largest city, see vast haciendas producing bananas, coffee, mangoes, rice, sugar cane and, of course, cacao; See beans and grain spread out by the side of the road, drying in the sun.

Extend your Ecuadorian vacation with a tour of the Amazon jungle, a Galapagos cruise or a trip to Peru's famous Macchu Picchu ruins, or take the saddest decision to go back home. Please make arrangements in advance.

Ecotourism Policies

Our main policy doing this tour is to preserve the indigenous culture, erradicate migration from the communities and to keep families together. While we do that, we also help the communities to have an income from tourism and also to sell their hadicrafts.

This way of doing tourism makes the indigenous people feel proud about their identity and more willing to keep their traditions. So come with us and help them to keep being wonderful people with a unvaluable culture!.
