Fiji Culture

We put you first.
It’s a simple thing to say, but not always simple to back up. The question we ask ourselves, daily, is “whose vacation is this anyway?” Which is why the staff at Fiji Adventures takes the time to find out about you personally, and what most fits your dreams of a trip to Fiji.

Itineraries to Suit You
We don’t fit you in to a pre-planned itinerary. We don’t offer the “flavor of the month” just because it’s on sale. We fit a tour to meet your needs, based on what you want to see and experience on your grand Fiji adventure. Our website features over 70 unique itineraries, but they are not carved in stone. They are useful suggestions based on what we have found to be the best trips throughout these 330 islands in the Fijian archipelago. Whether it’s dolphin watching in the Mamanuca island chain, swimming in the Blue Lagoon caves of the Yasawas, diving with the mantas of Kadavu, trekking the waterfalls of Taveuni, drinking kava with the high chief of Namuamua Village, rafting interior whitewaters of the Navua River, or zipping over the Wainadoi Valley in Viti Levu, each itinerary is carefully researched and developed to feature the highlights of each region. Yet each itinerary is easily adaptable to suit your needs – with extra time allotted for those unexpected, unplanned magical moments that can, and do, happen.

We Live Here
That’s one of our best features. We’re an American company, with a bit of a difference. We don’t claim to “visit the islands twice a year” because we don’t have to. Two of the company managers live in Fiji. This gives us an important edge. Fiji is not just a host country, it’s our home. And our Fijian neighbors delight in sharing with us the hidden secrets of their native land, the myths and legends, the stories and traditions. Which, in turn, we delight in sharing with you. And, conversely, we are afforded the unique responsibility to return this kindness by assisting in any way we can, for the warm and wonderful people who Conde Nast has rightly named “the Friendliest People on Earth.”

From our home and office in Fiji, we make sure your trip runs seamlessly, and if a problem does arise, you have an emergency number to call, which will be answered any time of the day – 24-7.

Trips In All Sizes
Since every explorer is different, so are our tours. They range from mild to wild, and everything in between:

• Adventure – itineraries incorporating snorkeling, sea kayaking, river rafting, waterfalls treks, zipline canopy tours, sailing, horseback riding, biking, hiking the highlands, and more, throughout the regions and islands of Fiji.

• Pure Adrenalin – kicks it up a notch with sky diving, shark feeding, wild boar hunting, white water rapids, big game fishing, mountain climbing, days trekking deep in the rainforest – for the thrill seeker.

• Culture – features unique cultural exchanges. Explore cannibal caves; watch native pottery women create one of a kind pieces of artwork; visit island villages, ancient hill forts, open-air markets, Fiji’s black pearl farm; ride bamboo rafts and traditional long boats; bird watch; walk with a learned medicine man and get to know the rich traditions and integral culture of the islands.

• Cruising – from adventure voyages to untraveled locations, to sailing safaris that visit a different reef, island and village daily, cruising takes a new meaning in the islands of Fiji!

• Scuba Diving – known as the “Soft Coral Capital of the World,” Fiji diving experiences are unrivaled. From a kaleidoscope of flowing coral gardens to even brighter colored tropical sea life; from the giant mantas to tiny nudibranchs, from walls to swim throughs, you’ll be amazed at the diversity of life that in the warm, tropical waters of Fiji.

• Active Romance – honeymoons and romance itineraries that combine candlelight with kayaks, spa treatments with snorkeling excursions, pearls with picnics, romance with rainforests.

• Surf – world renowned breaks are what put Fiji on the surf map – big, beautiful and barreling, and right outside your door.

We work with your budget, your requests, your ideal vacation plans. You get firsthand knowledge, custom itineraries, indigenous guides, meals (if wanted), packing lists, guidelines for cultural protocol, general information, airline etickets if flying from North America, connecting flights, transfers, transport, and best of all, you just have to sit back and let us do all the work. Eco-policies:

At Fiji Adventures we believe that ecotourism goes beyond the “take only pictures, leave no traces” policy. Beyond this, we believe responsible companies should be aware of their impact on a country’s most valuable resource – their indigenous population. Fiji Adventures takes this responsibility personally. Every time guests visit Fiji’s shores, they make an impact. Our job is to make sure that impact is a positive one. To that end, we’ve assisted several local villages in setting up sustainable tourism ‘Day Tours,’ enabling them to share their culture with visitors from around the globe, to generate income, and to work at preserving both their native culture and their fragile marine environment for future generations to come. We created a “cultural enrichment program” for an impoverished Indo-Fijian family. This involved everything from creating the tour, building indoor plumbing, providing proper equipment and teaching appropriate hygiene methods. This not only created income for the family and community, but gave our guests an insider’s view into the Fijian-Indian way of life.

Our guides are indigenous Fijians, trained with proper skills (from first aid and CPR to PADI dive training) that they can take with them and use long after tourists have left the country. We host small groups and educate our guests on responsible tourism practices – both toward the ecology and the social environment. Guests are given sulus when visiting villages, in keeping with modest cultural practices. Kava is offered to the chief, and any gifts for the village must pass Fiji Adventures’ stringent requirements to add to, not deter from, local customs and traditions.

Fiji Adventures offers assistance to create, maintain and provide safe drinking water systems, donations for education of youth, and training and advice in conservation, safety and first aid to the local population. Tours to interior villages create income for those without the means, or mode, to do so on their own. These are all done with a keen eye to preserving the lush environment, and the rich culture that has flourished for centuries, and hopefully, for centuries to come.
