Ashanti African tours are a UK registered Ghana based company with offices in both Ghana and the UK. Our main base of operation is in Ghana, which is where we live and work for the majority of the year.

For all our tours and activities, we are the ground agents. This means that our clients deal with us personally in Ghana, unlike many other tour companies, we do not book you from overseas and then expect you to deal with local agents when you arrive in Ghana. We feel being based in Ghana is a major advantage to our clients. Our team consists of a mixture of westerners and Ghanaians, which should give a diverse combination of knowledge and experience.

We know everything Ghana has to offer, and how best to deliver this to you. Our tours offer different experiences from eco, birdwatching, wildlife, cultural and history. All our guides have expert knowledge in those areas and are there to ensure your trip is a magical one. We are committed to responsible tourism and are passionate about the conservation and protection of Ghana’s wildlife, culture and historical monuments.

We are also very committed to giving something back to Ghana’s poorest communities. This is why we are currently trying to improve school facilities in a village outside of Kumasi, Ghana’s second largest city.

Eco tours of Ghana

Ghana is a friendly and politically stable English speaking country with possibly the best infrastructure and most developed eco tourism facilities in West Africa. The network of community based projects protecting wildlife, culture, historical traditions and monuments is growing all the time. These projects are being established by various traditional councils and district assemblies, with each project offering something special.

Imagine staying in a traditional Lobi village learning about their unique traditions, or witnessing cultural displays whilst contributing to protecting Ghana’s endangered hippopotami population at Wechiau, voted third best conservation holiday in the world by the independent newspapers in the UK.

Alternatively, visit the villages of Tafi Atome and Tafi Abuife both nestled close to each other in the Volta region. Here you can learn how to make traditional Kente cloth using centuries old methods, participate in traditional drumming and dancing cultural displays. In the evenings, sit around the fire listening to ancient tales from village elders, all this in the knowledge that your presence is helping in the protection of large numbers of monkeys that you will view in the surrounding forests.

Ashanti African tours offer 2 standard eco tours that range from 11 to 17 days in duration. Prices start from £899 per person.

All our tour prices include accommodation, all meals, transportation around Ghana in an air conditioned 4x4, cultural excursions, cultural displays, park entrance fees, guide fees and 24/7 care and attention.

EcoTourism Policies

1. Our company does not print brochures due to paper wastage. we actively encourage communication via email or telephone. we refill ink cartridges and reuse paper whenever possible. in the future, we hope to power our Ghana office using solar energy.

2. We endeavor to use all natural resources sparingly; these include water, wood and charcoal. we also insist all our clients do the same. In areas where local fuel such as wood and charcoal are not in abundance, we will use alternative fuels.

3. We send all our clients our responsible travel policy for Ghana via email or inform them by telephone prior to their departure. We also discuss our policy during our client’s complementary “welcome” drink on their arrival. Our small group sizes are a maximum of 8 persons. This helps minimise noise pollution and our negative impact on sensitive ecosystems. When camping, we leave the area as we found it, not removing anything and taking all unwanted possessions/waste with us until a suitable disposal facility is found. We also ensure out clients understand the dangers of cigarette disposal in dry, vulnerable habitats and the catastrophic environmental damage this may cause.

4. All our tours highlight community run eco tourism projects, and we especially encourage clients to visit projects protecting endangered wildlife and vulnerable wildlife areas. there are many such areas in Ghana such as the Ankasa and Bia chimpanzee population, along with the hippos at Bui and Wechiau. We believe that when the government notices the localised economic benefits that responsible tourism in these areas creates, it will do more to protect these vulnerable habitats from deforestation and other environmentally damaging projects. Our company is currently in the planning stages of improving facilities at a rundown school outside of Kumasi. A percentage of company profits will go towards this project.
