In ancient Hawai’i the people, the land and the living creatures embraced each other as family and as balanced components of an integrated world. Rocks, humans, birds and fish shared both physical and spiritual relationships and nourished each other. The living Land was indeed a beloved Chief. With Hina Adventures our driving philosophy is to recapture and promote the Hawaiian respect and love for the land and its life forms and to reveal the Hawaiian culture in its full environmental and historical context.
Hina Adventures’ tours of our home island of Oahu focus on the deep cultural heritage of the islands and the fragile environment of one of the most unique and endangered ecosystems in the world.
We go in-depth to provide you insight into this remarkable island archipelago by visiting sacred sites and places of great mana (power) embedded in the landscape; exploring the rugged beauty of Oahu’s rain-carved mountains; and experiencing the knowledge and skills of a 2,000 year-old people.
Our offerings include hiking, star-gazing & Polynesian navigational theory, interactive cultural tours, sight-seeing, and botanical & archaeological restoration projects.
Our tours are personally led by the owners of Hina Adventures, both of whom are highly experienced, educated eco-guides with deep family roots on the island of Oahu. Group sizes are limited to a maximum of 12 people to limit ecological impact.
As one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, it is more important than ever to pursue sustainable tourism models in Hawaii. Hina Adventures strives to provide responsible tour venues by closely working with environmentally-based community organizations and grassroots cultural groups in order to protect and preserve the uniqueness of our islands.
It is our goal to partner with other eco-minded groups not only to create new ecotourism opportunities, but also to help them create their own visitor education programs.
Hina Adventures donates a percentage of each cultural tour to the community caretakers of the sites visited in order to aide in the upkeep and restoration process. We also offer a service project restoration tour wherein guests may personally contribute to and intimately experience these inspiring sites.
