Misty Isle Boat Trips offers the unique opportunity to visit one of the finest views in all of Great Britain (and the world, according to many of our passengers!) with local skipper Seumas Mackinnon and his family.
We are a small, local family owned and run business with over 40 years of experience in running these trips which take passengers to see the large local colony of common seals (and occasionally grey seals too), the famous Cuillin Hills of the Isle of Skye, and ultimately Loch Coruisk itself.
Every season we also find good numbers of other wildlife both at sea, on land and in the air. Our seasonal sightings include basking sharks, minke whales, bottle nose dolphins, common dolphins, porpoises, otters, red deer, golden eagles, sea eagles, puffins, razor bills, guillemots, black guillemots, common terns, grey herons, gannets, oyster catchers and more.
In 2007 ITV1 featured Misty Isle Boat Trips and our skipper, Seumas as part of their series of programs, "Britain's Favorite View" where they considered Loch Coruisk to be amongst the top 16 views in all of Great Britain.
In September 2008 Japan's main television channel, NHK channel 1, broadcast live from the Misty Isle for one of their series of programs entitled, "World Eco Tours". Seumas was interviewed live in front of around 9 million people - certainly a new experience! He may be fluent in Gaelic, but his Japanese isn't so great!!
Come and enjoy a true Highland welcome (in Gaelic and English) from Seumas, his wife Anne and the crew, their youngest son Stuart for an unforgettable experience which has been described as "A 5-star trip at 2-star prices!"
In September 2008 Misty Isle boat trips were featured as part of Japan's main television channel's series of programs, "World Eco Tours", highlighting eco tourism around the world. Both skipper and crew are fully trained and registered as "Accredited Wildlife Safe Operators" under the WISEscheme.
Whilst so many of the boat trips aimed at the tourism market are these days run using high-powered fuel-guzzling fast boats, our skipper Seumas has worked on the same trip for over 40 years and has seen the potentially harmful effects of this both on the environment and also on the local wildlife.
Our trips are in a traditional wooden boat with a new and low-powered engine which uses very little fuel. Our trips offer a uniquely relaxed experience where we drift slowly to the large seal colony without disturbing them, and take time to stop near any passing marine wildlife.
Every season we have the privilege of seeing a good number of basking sharks, minke whales, dolphins and porpoises as well as golden eagles and red deer amongst other species, and we enjoy spreading something of our passion for the wildlife to our passengers - especially the youngsters.
