Our agency specializes in booking eco travel, community (real cultural connection) travel and volunteer travel. We have one of the largest databases (about 3,300) of worldwide sustainable travel opportunities in the US. We specialize in groups but work with individuals.
The mission of A Closer Look Travel is to promote and provide opportunities for travelers to give back as they travel, either by treading lightly on or enhancing the natural environment, making real connections with people in local communities, learning about other cultures and beliefs, and/or volunteering in local communities around the world.
We launched A Closer Look Travel in the spring of 2005 to provide just these kinds of travel opportunities.
Kara Black, founder of A Closer Look Travel, has worked formally in the travel industry since 2003. However, before becoming a travel advisor, one of her pastimes was planning travel for family and groups of friends. In addition, she has worked extensively in human services and event planning. Her values of giving back to the world led her to want to develop a different kind of travel agency that would encourage and support responsible travel that was fun and educational.
The name of our agency, A Closer Look Travel, is intended to convey a sense of really noticing and connecting with the places we visit. Let us make your travel planning easy so you can focus on and enjoy your destination.
