Terra Incognita Ecotours for trips that make a difference to you and to the places we visit. We have scheduled departures to Rwanda and Uganda; Belize; Costa Rica; Papua New Guinea; Madagascar and Nicaragua.
In Rwanda we take TWO Gorilla treks, stay in luxurious lodges, visit the grave of Dian Fossey, view sunbirds and wildlife galore, see incredible scenery, meet the veterinarians working to protect the Gorillas, visit both Virungas National Park, Rwanda and Mount Gahinga National Park, Uganda, all in one week.
In Belize we visit the Maya ruins at Lamanai and Tikal, scuba/snorkel on the Barrier Reef, relax at Chaa Creek Cottages, canoe the Macal River, track wildlife at Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve, help Harpy Eagle reintroduction efforts and so much more.
In Costa Rica explore the rainforest, waterfalls, spot quetzals, marvel at the cloud forest, go whitewater rafting, see monkeys and macaws, fiery-topped volcanoes, hummingbirds, soak in hot springs, go horseback riding, hear bellbirds, all included.
In Nicaragua culture, nature and adventure meet. A land of pre-Columbian artifacts, dazzling colonial architecture, and vibrant folkloric tradition are set against a backdrop of extraordinary natural beauty - volcanoes, beaches, pristine rainforest and astounding boiodiversity.
In Papua New Guinea, journey through a wild and exotic land. Traverse the massive Central Ranges, visiting ancient cultures and seeking exotic animals. Discover the extraordinary Melpa people of the Wahgi Valley, shake hands with a Huli warrior. Travel back in time with a cruise on the Sepik River and its tributaries, seek the incredible Ribbon-tailed Bird of Paradise.
In Madagascar enjoy a two-week photo safari through the land that time forgot. Travel to three different ecosystems and witness a remarkable diversity of wildlife. Indris at Perinet, sifakas in Ampijoroa and ring-tailed lemurs galore in Berenty. This trip will exceed all your expectations.
Every participant on a Terra Incognita Ecotour is making a direct contribution to a Conservation Organization operating in the places we visit. Combining philanthropy with ecotourism is the modus operandus of Terra Incognita Ecotours.
Terra Incognita Ecotours make a difference to you, and to the areas we visit. Indeed, we pledge to engage in “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.” Hence we adhere to the following principles:
- Minimize impact - Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect
- Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts
- Provide direct financial benefits for conservation
- Provide financial benefits and empowerment for local people
- Raise sensitivity to host countries political, environmental, and social
climate
- Support international human rights and labor agreements
We take these principles to heart, and for every person who joins one of our ecotours we make a donation to one of the leading conservation organizations working in the area. Indeed we partner with these organizations to help increase their effectiveness. Our conservation partners will send a representative to join us, to explain their work, to provide added insight, to make your experience more relevant, rewarding and unique.
